Office Policies

We try our best to accommodate our patients as much as possible when scheduling appointments. We have found that children with extensive dental work or preschool children are better seen early in the morning when they are fresher and can have a more positive experience. Some appointments may require the child to miss some school; however, these are considered excused absences. With continued care, appointments during school can be kept to a minimum.

Your scheduled appointment time has been reserved specifically for you. We request a 24-hour notice if you need to cancel your appointment. We are aware that unforeseen events sometimes require missing an appointment, but we ask for your help as a courtesy to all of our patients. Continued broken confirmed appointments may result in an additional charge.

First Pediatric Visit

According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, a child’s first checkup should occur by age one. Even though there may only be a few baby teeth visible, we will start developing healthy habits that will make future visits to the dentist far more pleasurable. Some kids develop tooth decay at an early age but that’s only one reason for an early visit to our office. Equally important is reviewing the proper ways to care for a young child’s mouth, going over your child’s developmental milestones, and discussing the importance of good oral hygiene.

What To Expect

Prepare Your Child

During this visit we’ll be talking to you and your child, looking in their mouth and making oral health assessments. Tell your child what to expect beforehand, without making too big a fuss about it. 

When you and your child are comfortably seated in the office, we’ll spend a few minutes getting to know each other and explaining what we will be doing.

We will perform a gentle examination of the mouth looking for any early signs of dental problems such as tooth decay, and assessing the risk that your child may develop the disease in the future.

We’ll discuss various ways to keep your child’s oral health in top condition including diet, eating habits and oral hygiene practices that can help prevent tooth decay.

If any treatments are needed, we will explain what they are and why we recommend them. We will also review tips on cleaning and brushing effectively.

We’ll schedule a follow-up visit as required.

First Orthodontic Visit

Your first visit to our orthodontic office is an exciting time! It’s a chance for us to get acquainted, and for you to learn about the treatments and services we offer. You should plan to spend at least an hour with us. The initial consultation is when we determine what treatment is necessary to correct any problems we may find and whether we should begin now, or wait until a later time.

What To Expect

  • We will give you a tour of our office and give you a chance to meet the team

  • We will take some regular photographs of the teeth

  • We will take a series of X-rays to see what’s going on underneath the gums

  • We will take intraoral scans of your teeth to make a digital replica of your teeth

  • We will study any records and the images we just took

  • We will perform a careful examination

  • We will ask lots of questions

  • We will make a proper diagnosis

  • We will discuss treatment options

  • You will have an opportunity to ask all the questions

  • We will finalize our treatment plan

  • When you leave our office, you will know exactly what we recommend and the cost. You may even decide that day you are ready to move forward.
